Within the framework of the great rapprochement witnessed by Moroccan-European relations in recent years, and the positive dynamics of the strategic partnership between Morocco and the European Union, the new High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaya Kallas, confirmed in a tweet on the “X” platform (formerly Twitter), that she held a dialogue today, Monday 9/12/2024, which she described as “useful” with the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Nasser Bourita, on the situation in the Middle East.
The new European chief diplomat added after the phone conversation with the Moroccan Foreign Minister: “I know that we can count on Morocco to strengthen our long-standing relations and face challenges together.”
The European official reiterated, in the phone call, the bloc’s readiness to strengthen cooperation with Rabat. Kallas’s statements come after the Kingdom of Morocco called on the European Union to translate its words into concrete initiatives regarding the future of the strategic partnership between the two parties, during the recent visit of Oliver Varhelyi, the European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement, to Rabat.
It is worth noting that former Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas assumed the position of High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, replacing Josep Borrell.
