FBI searches home of Los Angeles deputy mayor over a bomb threat at City Hall

By Sama Marwan,

FBI agents have searched the home of Los Angeles Deputy Mayor Brian K. Williams as part of an investigation into a bomb threat made against City Hall earlier this year. Williams, who oversees public safety, was identified by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) as the likely source of the threat. Due to his position and the LAPD’s working relationship with him, the investigation was referred to the FBI.

Following the search, Mayor Karen Bass placed Williams on administrative leave, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation. Williams’ attorney, Dmitry Gorin, stated that his client “strongly maintains his innocence and intends to vigorously fight the allegations,” noting that Williams has not been arrested or charged and is cooperating with the investigation.

Williams has a long history of public service, including previous terms as deputy mayor and assistant city attorney. The LAPD’s initial investigation found no immediate danger from the bomb threat. However, concerns have been raised about the implications of such allegations against a high-ranking official responsible for public safety.

This incident follows another significant security concern earlier this year when an intruder broke into Mayor Bass’s residence, highlighting persistent issues of public safety in Los Angeles.
