President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met on Friday 1/12/2023 with UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on the sidelines of UN climate change conference COP28 in Dubai, the presidential spokesman Counsellor Ahmed Fahmy said.
Ahmed Fahmy added the two sides discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and political coordination. Fahmy said that the both sides exchanged visions on various files of common interest, as well as appreciated the close ties between Egypt and the United Kingdom. They affirmed their aspiration to further cooperation at all levels, the presidency spokesman said.
The official spokesman added that the president El Sisi and UK Prime Minister Sunak, during the meeting, tackled the developments in climate file in light of the holding of the climate summit in Dubai, in addition to developments in the current situation in the Gaza Strip, where the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom praised the tireless efforts exerted by Egypt in this regard. The two sides discussed means of coordination of international efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
Sisi and Sunak described the current situation as critical, especially in light of the dangerous consequences of expanding the circle of conflict on the stability of the region.
In this regard, El Sisi reviewed the efforts made by Egypt to calm tensions, stressing the need to provide the necessary protection for civilians, while seeking to find the appropriate political horizon to reach a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue.
