The Philippine Coast Guard announced the sinking of a cargo ship off Samar Island in the central Philippines, resulting in the death of one crew member and the disappearance of two others.
According to a report by ABS-CBN on Tuesday, PCG official Breil Amay stated that a Philippine-flagged cargo ship sank last night due to rough waves in the San Bernardino Strait near Samar Island. Passing vessels managed to rescue 11 out of the ship’s 15 crew members.
Amay added that another crew member swam to shore, while fishermen recovered the body of another near Biri Island. Authorities are continuing the search for the two missing individuals.
The ship was carrying 24 tons of cement from Cebu Island to Samar Island.
