New Year celebrations in Brussels end with 30 cars burned and 150 people arrested

By Sama Marwan,

The Belgian capital, Brussels, witnessed chaotic events on New Year’s Eve, where approximately 30 cars were set on fire, and around 160 people were arrested. Police carried out over 1,700 interventions throughout the night.

Additionally, firefighters were attacked with Molotov cocktails while attempting to extinguish the fires, further complicating the security situation.

Despite these incidents, Brussels hosted a fireworks display attended by around 50,000 spectators, bringing a festive atmosphere to the city.

It is worth noting that such incidents are not limited to Brussels; in France, approximately 1,000 cars were set on fire during New Year’s celebrations, reflecting similar security challenges in the region.

Belgian authorities are investigating these incidents and taking necessary measures to ensure they do not recur in the future.
