Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, on the sidelines of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, COP28, in Dubai, the UAE.
Spokesman for the Presidency, Counselor Ahmed Fahmy, said President El-Sisi and the Italian Prime Minister confirmed commitment to further strengthening the strategic cooperation between Egypt and Italy, and to taking full advantage of the broad prospects for cooperation across diverse spheres. They also emphasized interest to boost coordination and consultations between the two sides in the coming period on the various political, security, military, developmental and economic dossiers of common interest, in a manner that helps promote security and stability across the Middle East, the Mediterranean Basin and the African continent.
President El-Sisi and Italy’s Prime Minister Meloni exchanged views and visions on a multitude of regional and international issues, notably the developments in the Gaza Strip. The Italian Prime Minister extended gratitude to Egypt for its pivotal role in advancing peace efforts in the region, as demonstrated by its hosting of the Cairo Summit for Peace. President El-Sisi reviewed the outcomes of Egypt’s unyielding efforts and contact to restore calm and a ceasefire to protect the civilians and provide safe and urgent access for humanitarian relief and aid to the people in the Gaza Strip. The President reiterated the vital need for the international community to assume its responsibilities to end this escalation, paving the way for diplomatic efforts to progress toward addressing the root-causes of the Palestinian issue and restore the peace process.
