A spokesperson for the German government said on Monday that a significant increase in crimes attributed to the far-right was recorded in the country during 2024, largely driven by online offenses and hate speech.
The spokesperson added that, as of November 30, a total of 33,963 politically motivated right-wing crimes had been registered in Germany — the latest available data for the past year — compared to 28,945 cases in 2023.
Speaking at a press conference in Berlin, the spokesperson stated: “At this point, we can already say that there is an increase in online crimes in particular, specifically so-called expression and propaganda-related offenses,” describing the figures as “alarming.”
The data indicated that, among these cases in 2024 until November 30, 1,136 violent crimes were recorded, compared to 1,270 violent crimes throughout the entire year of 2023.
