The Republic of Ghana decides to suspend its diplomatic relations with the separatist Polisario Front

By Manal El Warraky

The Republic of Ghana announced, in an official document addressed by the Ghanaian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration to the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, the suspension of its diplomatic relations with the separatist Polisario Front.

In this regard, the Republic of Ghana decided to “inform the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco, the African Union and the United Nations of this position immediately, through diplomatic channels,” the document added.

In addition to the above, the Republic of Ghana expressed, in the same official document, its support for what it called “the sincere efforts made by the Kingdom of Morocco to reach a solution acceptable to all parties.”

It is worth noting that Morocco is moving steadily to resolve the issue of the Moroccan Sahara through diplomatic channels, and has been able, in implementation of the instructions of King Mohammed VI, King of Morocco, to add great momentum to this issue through the gains achieved since 2000, represented by 46 countries, including 13 African countries, severing or suspending their relations with the so-called separatist Polisario organization.
