Swiss coach Marcel Koller, the manager of Al Ahly SC, has officially confirmed the departure of Percy Tau, the South African forward, as he moves to the Qatari league.
During a press conference held today ahead of Al Ahly’s upcoming match against Stade d’Abidjan, Koller said:
“Percy Tau is not with us at the moment because he has joined a new club. He is currently in Qatar.”
Al Ahly will face Stade d’Abidjan tomorrow, Saturday, at 6:00 PM as part of the fifth round of the CAF Champions League group stage.
Reports Confirm Percy Tau’s Arrival in Qatar
According to press reports on Friday, Percy Tau has already arrived in Qatar SC to complete his transfer during the ongoing winter transfer window.
The reports indicate that Tau will undergo a medical examination on Saturday at Aspetar Hospital, a renowned sports medicine facility in Qatar. Therefore, he will not be available for Qatar SC’s match against Al-Duhail on Friday in the 12th round of the Qatari Stars League.
However, the reports suggest that Tau will be ready to participate in Qatar SC’s upcoming match against Al-Nasr UAE on January 17 at Al Maktoum Stadium in Dubai.
Details of Percy Tau’s Career with Al Ahly
Al Ahly signed Percy Tau from Brighton & Hove Albion in August 2021 on a four-year contract. He was a top priority for Pitso Mosimane, the former Al Ahly coach, who had previously managed Tau at Mamelodi Sundowns.
Despite struggling with injuries during Mosimane’s tenure, Tau’s performance significantly improved under Marcel Koller, becoming a key player in Al Ahly’s attack alongside Mahmoud Kahraba. One of his standout performances was in the CAF Champions League semi-final against Espérance de Tunis, where Al Ahly won 3-0 in Tunisia, with Tau scoring two goals and Kahraba adding another.
