In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on December 1, 2023, the Arab Republic of Egypt expressed its strong condemnation of the truce breakdown and the renewed Israeli violent bombardment and military operations against the Gaza Strip, which resulted in additional casualties among Palestinian civilians, considering the matter a grave setback and an underestimation by the Israeli side of all efforts exerted over the past few days to extend the truce in order to spare the lives of innocent Palestinians, and ensure the access of more urgent humanitarian aid to the residents of the Gaza Strip.
Egypt warned of the consequences of expanding Israeli military operations in southern Gaza, and the calls of Israeli officials encouraging the displacement of Palestinians outside the borders of Gaza, in a flagrant violation of Israel’s obligations as being the Occupying Power, and all provisions of international humanitarian law, especially the provisions of the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949, reaffirming Egypt’s steadfast stance rejecting the enforced displacement of Palestinians outside the borders of their territories, which constitutes a red line thats not allowed to be crossed.
Egypt reiterated its call upon influential international parties and relevant UN bodies, led by the Security Council, to assume their responsibilities in terms of ensuring the protection of Palestinian civilians in Gaza, and halting attempts and plans of pushing the Palestinians to flee their country, stressing the importance of actual implementation of the two resolutions issued by the Security Council and the General Assembly in this regard.
