China’s Ministry of Commerce expressed regret over the European Union’s decision to file a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) concerning a Chinese court ruling on standard essential patent disputes.
In a statement reported by the Chinese news agency Xinhua, the ministry stated, “China received a request for consultations from the European Union on January 20.”
The statement emphasized that China has strictly adhered to WTO rules and its commitments upon joining the organization. It has consistently improved legislation and enforcement procedures related to intellectual property rights protection, earning widespread recognition for its achievements.
The ministry also noted that communication channels between China and the EU remain open on intellectual property matters. It affirmed that China will address subsequent issues in accordance with WTO rules and will firmly safeguard its legitimate rights and interests.
