The Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially approved the dates for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. This announcement comes just a day after the tournament’s draw was conducted at the Mohammed V National Theater in Rabat, Morocco. The competition will feature 24 teams, including Egypt, who are eager to reclaim the title they last won in 2010.
Africa Cup of Nations 2025 Schedule
CAF announced today on its official website that the tournament will kick off on December 21, 2025, with the opening match between Morocco and Comoros in Group A. The competition will conclude with the final on January 18, 2026.

The tournament includes 24 teams divided into six groups as follows:
- Group A: Morocco, Mali, Zambia, Comoros
- Group B: Egypt, South Africa, Angola, Zimbabwe
- Group C: Nigeria, Tunisia, Uganda, Tanzania
- Group D: Senegal, DR Congo, Benin, Botswana
- Group E: Algeria, Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea, Sudan
- Group F: Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Gabon, Mozambique

- December 22: Egypt vs. Zimbabwe
- December 26: Egypt vs. South Africa
- December 29: Egypt vs. Angola
Egypt Seeks Eighth AFCON Title
The Egyptian national team, holding the record for the most AFCON titles (7), is preparing for another campaign to reclaim continental glory. After losing the finals in 2017 and 2021, Egypt aims to end its 15-year title drought, with its last triumph dating back to 2010. Egypt’s titles came in 1957, 1959, 1986, 1998, 2006, 2008, and 2010.
Egypt’s Qualification Journey
Egypt secured qualification for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco with ease, finishing unbeaten in the qualifiers. The Pharaohs topped Group C with four wins and two draws, ahead of Botswana, Mauritania, and Cape Verde.
Hossam Hassan Leading Egypt
The national team is coached by Hossam Hassan, the 58-year-old former Egyptian international. Hassan has previously managed several prominent Egyptian clubs, including Zamalek, Al-Masry, Al-Ittihad Alexandria, and Ismaily, as well as the Jordanian national team.
Egypt’s Record in AFCON
Egypt remains the all-time record holder in AFCON history, with 7 titles, the most participations (27), and 9 final appearances (tied with Ghana). Egypt also holds the record for the most matches played and victories achieved in the tournament.
