Jordan’s Foreign Minister: We Reject Alternative Homeland for Palestinians and Will Resist Attempts to Displace Them

By Sama Marwan,

Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, reaffirmed his country’s stance on Monday against the displacement of Palestinians, emphasizing that Jordan’s consistent and permanent position is to support the Palestinians’ right to live on their land. He stated that any attempts to displace them will not contribute to achieving peace and stability in the region.

In his briefing before the Jordanian Parliament, Safadi said: “Our position is unwavering and essential for the stability and peace we all seek.” He pointed out that Jordan will continue to oppose any efforts to alter the Palestinian reality or undermine their rights. He added: “Ensuring the Palestinians remain on their land is a Jordanian principle that will not change, and any attempt to displace them will not bring peace or security to the region. Any talk of an alternative homeland is unacceptable.”

Safadi confirmed that Jordan will continue to support the Palestinian cause by reaffirming the Palestinians’ right to sovereignty and the establishment of their independent state. He further stated: “No to displacement, and there is no solution to the Palestinian issue at Jordan’s expense, nor will we accept any attempt to diminish Palestinian rights.” He highlighted that the current priorities include ensuring a ceasefire in Gaza, while Jordan continues to send humanitarian aid to the Palestinians.

The Jordanian Foreign Minister also emphasized that under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, Jordan continues its efforts to support Palestine. He said: “Jordan is working with all its regional partners to make clear progress toward achieving a just and comprehensive peace.” He reiterated that achieving this peace requires the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with sovereignty over Palestinian lands, based on the two-state solution along the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

In this context, Safadi pointed out that the path to security and stability in the region lies in meeting the rights of the Palestinian people, so that the independent Palestinian state can live in peace and security alongside Israel, based on international law and UN resolutions.

Safadi concluded his briefing by confirming that Jordan’s international relations are strong, highlighting the distinguished partnerships with the European Union and the United States. He added: “In a few days, we will sign an agreement to enhance Jordan-EU relations, and our relationship with the United States is strategic and is being developed to serve our mutual interests.”
