CNN has reported that Donald Trump’s execution of his election promises is bringing risks and disruption to the world.
The network noted that Trump is doing exactly what he said he would—launching aggressive trade wars to appeal to marginalized voters in a globalized economy, cracking down on the deadly fentanyl crisis, and waging a campaign against migrants amid concerns about the southern border. Additionally, with the help of Elon Musk, Trump has begun dismantling the government, which his supporters blame for their problems.
U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance wrote on X last Monday:
“When a president is elected by the people and then implements what he promised, that is democracy. When a president is blocked by unelected bureaucrats, that is oligarchy. President Trump refuses to bow to this oligarchy—buckle up.”
However, Trump’s frantic efforts to fulfill his election promises may come at a high cost. Internationally, his actions threaten to undermine America’s traditional leadership and longstanding commitments that have been vital to the global economy. International agreements and treaties with allies are at risk, including the North American trade deal, which Trump has threatened with new massive tariffs on Canada and Mexico, as well as the treaty that transferred control of the Panama Canal from the U.S.
Domestically, his rapid purge of federal employees and erratic spending decisions have raised concerns about essential aid programs that millions of Americans rely on. Additionally, the legitimacy of firing dozens of federal employees to satisfy Trump’s political agenda is being questioned.
As Trump’s third week in office begins, growing concerns arise over whether this radical upheaval—challenging generations of American policy and legal norms—will actually solve any of the problems he was elected to fix.
