Minister of Petroleum Meets with British Ambassador to Discuss Enhancing Bilateral Cooperation

Eng. Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, received the British Ambassador to Egypt, Gareth Bayley, and his accompanying delegation at the ministry’s headquarters in the government district of the New Administrative Capital. The two sides discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in the fields of oil, gas, petrochemicals, renewable energy, and mining.

During the meeting, Minister Karim Badawi emphasized the strategic partnership between Egypt and the UK across various sectors, particularly oil and gas, where British companies have a significant portfolio of operations in Egypt. He noted that the UK possesses advanced technologies and expertise that could be utilized in exploration, production, and operations in both onshore and offshore fields, as well as mature fields, especially in light of the incentives introduced by the ministry in recent months. He also highlighted the promising opportunities in Egypt’s mining sector and the measures taken to create an attractive investment environment for this vital industry, in addition to energy efficiency projects and increasing the share of renewable energy in Egypt’s energy mix.

Minister Badawi invited the British Ambassador to attend the Egypt International Energy Exhibition and Conference (EGYPES 2025), which is set to take place from February 17-19.

For his part, Ambassador Gareth Bayley praised the fruitful cooperation between the two countries, which has led to numerous joint successes in recent years, particularly in the oil and gas sector. He also noted that several British companies are interested in investing in Egypt’s oil, gas, petrochemicals, sustainable aviation fuel, and mining industries.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the British Ambassador invited Minister Karim Badawi to attend the International Energy Agency (IEA) Summit on the Future of Energy Security, scheduled to take place on April 24-25, 2025, at Lancaster House in London, UK.
