A spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that there is no place for trade protectionism and that there is no winner in a trade war or a tariff war.
During a press conference, as reported by China’s CGTN channel, the spokesperson stated, “These tariffs harm the interests of both peoples,” emphasizing the importance of correcting the United States’ wrongful practices. He called on Washington to stop politicizing economic and trade issues to achieve mutual peace and prosperity.
These remarks came in response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of a tariff of up to 25% on all steel and aluminum imports into the country.
