By Sama Marwan,

The Lebanese Ministry of Public Works and Transport confirmed in an official statement that it is closely monitoring the crisis involving the Iranian aircraft and the Lebanese citizens wishing to return home from Tehran, according to the Lebanese National News Agency.

The Minister of Public Works and Transport stated that the necessary measures have been taken to facilitate the return of those stranded in Iran, in coordination with the General Directorate of Civil Aviation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, and Middle East Airlines. He emphasized that those wishing to return directly or via any neighboring country, depending on the available circumstances, will not bear any additional costs. He also expressed appreciation for the patience and understanding of Lebanese citizens amid these exceptional circumstances, affirming that efforts are ongoing to ensure their swift return.

Additionally, he explained that direct coordination is taking place with the Lebanese Ambassador to Iran to complete the necessary procedures and address any emerging issues. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues its communications with Iranian authorities to facilitate an immediate return.

The ministry stressed that ensuring the smooth operation of Rafic Hariri International Airport according to the highest international standards remains a top priority to maintain the continuity of this vital gateway between Lebanon and the world. It also reaffirmed its commitment to taking all necessary measures to restore air travel between Lebanon and Iran in compliance with international regulations, while safeguarding the public interest and achieving the desired objectives.

The crisis follows a night of violent protests and riots that erupted yesterday, during which demonstrators blocked roads leading to Rafic Hariri International Airport and set fire to tires. The protests, reportedly led by Hezbollah supporters, were in response to the suspension of flights between Tehran and Beirut.
