Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán recently stated that the European Union cannot afford to continue financing Ukraine’s war efforts, warning that such support could “ruin Europe.”
Orbán, who is considered an ally of former U.S. President Donald Trump, expressed concerns about the uncertainty of continued financial aid from the United States to Ukraine, which places a greater burden on European countries. He pointed out that the EU is facing major financial challenges and that increasing defense spending while continuing to support Ukraine could have severe consequences for the European economy.
Additionally, Orbán announced that his government would launch a “public consultation” within Hungary regarding Ukraine’s EU membership in the coming weeks, reflecting his cautious stance on expanding the union under current circumstances.
These remarks highlight Hungary’s continued critical stance toward the EU’s policies on Ukraine, adding to the tensions within the bloc over how to handle the Ukrainian crisis and its impact on European security and the economy.
