Pro-Palestinian activists have claimed responsibility for vandalizing one of former U.S. President Donald Trump’s golf resorts in Scotland in response to his proposal to evacuate Gaza of its Palestinian population.
According to The Associated Press, the activists targeted the Trump Turnberry golf course and hotel in southwest Scotland on Saturday night. They spray-painted the words “Gaza is Not for Sale” in large English letters on the grass and used red paint to write “Free Gaza… Free Palestine” on the club’s outer wall.
The activist group “Palestinian Action” stated that they reject Trump’s treatment of Gaza as if it were one of his properties that he can dispose of at will. In a statement, they declared that to make this clear, they showed the former president that his own properties are not safe from acts of resistance.
Scottish police confirmed receiving a report about the damage in the early hours of Saturday and stated that an investigation is ongoing.
Meanwhile, the Trump Turnberry Group condemned the incident as a criminal and childish act, insisting that it will not impact their business operations.
Trump had previously called for the depopulation of Gaza, suggesting that the U.S. should take control of the Strip and redevelop it for others—a plan that has been widely rejected both in the Arab world and internationally.
Turnberry is one of 10 golf courses that have hosted the prestigious British Open Championship, one of the four major tournaments in men’s golf. However, since Trump purchased the course in 2014 and redesigned several holes, the Open has not been held there.
