Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry emphasized the need to intensify international efforts in order to reach a complete and sustainable ceasefire in Gaza and protect the lives of civilians.

In a meeting on Wednesday with US Senator Ben Cardin, Chair of the Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee, Shoukry reiterated Egypt’s categorical rejection of any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinian citizens inside or outside their territories.

He also emphasized the necessity of removing obstacles that prevent adequate humanitarian aid from entering the strip in a sustainable way.

The meeting was held as part of the bilateral meetings held by the foreign minister during his current visit to the United States.

During the meeting, Shoukry emphasized the importance of enhancing consultation between Egypt and the US, especially amid the challenges that the region and the world are going through, and the resulting economic pressures.

He also pointed out to the economic reform efforts undertaken by the Egyptian government, which coincided with difficult international and regional conditions, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said.

The two sides agreed on the importance of strategic partnership between Egypt and the US.

The meeting touched on the developments of the situation in the Gaza Strip, the spokesman said.

Meanwhile, the US senator expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s role in providing and delivering humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, contributing to the truce between Israel and Hamas and the hostage-prisoner deal, and facilitating the evacuation of foreign nationals.

During his visit to the US, Shoukry also met with US Republican Michael McCaul, Lead Republican of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, on Wednesday.

During the meeting, Shoukry reiterated Egypt’s unwavering stance as regards rejecting any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinian citizens inside or outside their territories.

Shoukry also emphasized the importance of reaching an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, providing protection for Palestinian civilians, and ensuring regular access to humanitarian aid.
