U.S. Secretary of State: We Will Take Action Against Countries That Imposed Tariffs on Us

By Sama Marwan,

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio revealed that the United States may initiate bilateral talks with certain countries to establish new trade arrangements, following its decision to impose tariffs on key trading partners.

In a statement reported by Alhurra TV on Sunday evening, Rubio emphasized that the U.S. will take measures against countries that have imposed tariffs on it. He clarified that this policy does not specifically target countries like Canada, Mexico, or the European Union, but rather applies to all nations equally.

Rubio added that, based on fairness and reciprocity, Washington may enter bilateral negotiations with different countries to develop new trade arrangements that benefit all parties involved.

He further stated that the U.S. will not accept the current situation and is seeking to establish a new framework for trade relations. Once that is achieved, negotiations for trade agreements may take place—if other countries are willing. However, he stressed that maintaining the status quo is not an option.

These remarks come after President Donald Trump threatened to impose a 200% tariff on certain European imports.
