In an official statement, the movement announced that Abu Hamza’s real name was Naji Abu Saif. He was martyred along with several members of his family, including his brother Ghassan Maher Abu Saif, his wife Sarah Abu Saif (Sabah), their son Saif Ghassan Maher Abu Saif, and Dima Maher Abu Saif.

Mourning his loss, the Islamic Jihad Movement stated:
“The martyr Abu Hamza was known to the media as a voice of the resistance, fearless in speaking the truth, eloquent in his speech, and bold in his heroic positions. He stood firmly in defense of our people’s rights and never wavered.”

Since 2014, Abu Hamza had served as the official military spokesperson for Saraya Al-Quds, the armed wing of the Islamic Jihad Movement. His presence in media was notable, appearing at various locations such as Gaza’s mosques, news agencies, and television networks.

He played a key role in many significant moments, particularly in June 2021, after “Operation Sword of Jerusalem”, where he made strong statements affirming that Saraya Al-Quds would continue its attacks against Israeli occupation forces at any time and would not bow to pressure or threats.

On October 7, 2023, at the beginning of the war, he declared:
“Today, we have begun the battle of revenge and pride. We are engaged in a full-scale war with the Zionist enemy, and this is only the beginning.”
