The Kingdom of Morocco today clearly and in the strongest terms condemned the ceasefire violation and the renewed Israeli attacks on civilians in the Gaza Strip.
“Morocco clearly and in the strongest terms condemns the renewed attacks on civilians in Gaza,” said Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Mr. Nasser Bourita, during a press conference following the ministerial meeting of the African Union Peace and Security Council, describing the situation in the Strip as “very serious and worrying.”
He added that these Israeli attacks, which have left hundreds of victims in recent days, “are unacceptable and condemnable and do not contribute to the establishment of peace in the region.”
Mr. Bourita recalled that King Mohammed VI, who is Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, has consistently emphasized that consolidating the ceasefire is the essential and decisive element for laying the foundations for the next stages, and that the ceasefire agreement should not be subject to narrow calculations or become an area for outbidding or bargaining. He emphasized that the Moroccan King has always emphasized that all parties must first work to consolidate the ceasefire before moving on to the other phases that were at the heart of the ceasefire agreement. He expressed his regret that the second and third phases were not reached due to the policy of starvation and the cessation of humanitarian aid, which has led to a tragic situation in Gaza that has become one of the most significant challenges to the human conscience and international law.
Mr. Bourita also recalled the King of Morocco’s emphasis on the need to open a lasting horizon for peace in the region through the two-state solution.
The Minister concluded that the past year and a half has resulted in a large number of innocent victims, including children and women, the destruction of homes, and the starvation of the population of Gaza. He emphasized that the ceasefire agreement had provided a glimmer of hope, but the Israeli government has reneged on its commitments and violated the agreement through the recent attacks.
