Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ayman Safadi, has emphasized the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and full commitment to the prisoner exchange agreement that was brokered through Egyptian, Qatari, and U.S. mediation.
During calls with several of his counterparts on Thursday, Safadi stressed the international community’s responsibility to act swiftly and effectively to compel Israel to halt its aggression and reopen border crossings to allow the entry of humanitarian aid throughout the Gaza Strip.
Safadi warned of the catastrophic consequences of Israel’s resumption of military operations and its continued blockade on humanitarian assistance, stressing that a permanent ceasefire must be enforced immediately, starting with adherence to the exchange agreement.
Condemning the renewed assault and the weaponization of food, Safadi discussed with his counterparts regional and international efforts to reach a ceasefire and facilitate aid delivery to Gaza.
He also cautioned against Israel’s illegal actions in the West Bank, warning that such measures risk escalating tensions further.
According to a statement by the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Safadi’s calls included discussions with:
Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdel Atty
Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf
Bulgarian Foreign Minister Georgi Gorgiev
Slovenian Deputy Prime Minister & Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon
Austria’s newly appointed Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger
During his conversation with the Bulgarian FM, Safadi condemned the killing of a Bulgarian national who was working for the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in an Israeli strike on the organization’s headquarters two days ago. He also expressed Jordan’s condolences to Bulgaria over the incident.
Safadi stressed that Israel must uphold its responsibilities as an occupying power, ensuring the safety of international organizations and their personnel.
In his discussion with Austria’s Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger, Safadi explored ways to strengthen bilateral relations and congratulated her on her new role. Both ministers reaffirmed the strong partnership between Jordan and Austria and expressed their commitment to further cooperation.
Additionally, Safadi and Meinl-Reisinger discussed the latest developments in Syria.
Safadi had also spoken with Austrian Chancellor and former Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg, thanking him for his efforts in strengthening Jordan-Austria relations during his tenure.
