Cairo University Students Launch “فرق حرف” Campaign to Combat FOMO and Promote JOMO

Cairo, Egypt – March 24, 2025 – A team of fourth-year Public Relations and Advertising students from the Faculty of Mass Communication at Cairo University has launched “فرق حرف”, an innovative awareness campaign addressing the growing impact of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) and advocating for JOMO (Joy of Missing Out) as a healthier and more mindful lifestyle choice.

In today’s digital era, where social media dominates daily life, FOMO has become a significant contributor to anxiety, social pressure, and unrealistic expectations, particularly among Gen Z and Millennials. The “فرق حرف” campaign aims to educate the public about the psychological, social, physical, and economic consequences of FOMO while equipping them with practical strategies to embrace JOMO for a more balanced and fulfilling life.

Campaign Objectives

The campaign focuses on:

Raising awareness about FOMO, its causes, symptoms, and negative consequences

Promoting JOMO as a positive alternative that enhances mental well-being

Encouraging healthier digital habits and mindful social media consumption

Fostering interactive discussions through social media and offline initiatives

“Our goal is to shift mindsets and encourage people to prioritize self-fulfillment over external validation,” said the campaign team. “By embracing JOMO, individuals can cultivate a more intentional and balanced approach to life.”
