President Alexander Lukashenko took the constitutional oath of office as the President of Belarus for the seventh term on Tuesday.
The Belarusian news agency (BelTA) reported that the inauguration ceremony was held at the Palace of Independence in the capital, Minsk, in the presence of more than 1,100 people.
The ceremony was opened by the Chairman of the Central Election Commission of Belarus, Igor Karpenko, who announced Lukashenko’s assumption of office as the country’s leader by the will of the Belarusian people following free and democratic elections.
Lukashenko pledged to serve the Belarusian people, respect and protect their rights, uphold citizens’ freedoms, and safeguard the constitution.
Lukashenko won the majority of votes in the presidential elections held on January 26, securing 86.82% of the votes.
