Russia’s New Ambassador to the United States Heads to Washington

By Sama Marwan,

Russia’s ambassador to Washington, Alexander Dartiev, departed for the United States today, Wednesday, to begin his official duties, according to a source quoted by Russia’s TASS news agency.

The agency noted that during the first round of talks in Riyadh on February 18, Russia and the United States reached an agreement to expedite the appointment of new ambassadors.

Washington approved Dartiev’s appointment as Russia’s ambassador following another round of bilateral talks held in Istanbul on February 27. This step comes as Russia and the United States resume dialogue on restoring relations, which Moscow stated would primarily focus on returning to full diplomatic engagement.

Russia’s former ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, completed his tenure last October.
