In the wake of the devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck central Myanmar on March 28, 2025, the Japanese government has expressed its readiness to provide comprehensive support to the affected regions.
According to a statement released on the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs website on Saturday, Japan extended its condolences to the governments and people of Myanmar and Thailand, emphasizing its commitment to assess the needs in the affected areas and coordinate the delivery of urgent aid.
The earthquake, which occurred near Mandalay, Myanmar’s second-largest city, has resulted in a rapidly rising death toll. Initial reports indicated over 140 fatalities, but subsequent updates have confirmed that the number has surpassed 1,600, with thousands more injured. The disaster has caused widespread destruction, including the collapse of buildings, bridges, and infrastructure, further complicating rescue and relief efforts.
