Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reaffirmed that his country will never seek to research, produce, or acquire nuclear weapons under any circumstances.
In a post on the social media platform X, cited by the Iranian news agency IRNA, Araghchi stated on Wednesday:
“Former U.S. President Donald Trump may not have been interested in the 2015 nuclear deal, but this agreement included a fundamental commitment from Iran that remains in place. Even the United States—despite having withdrawn from the deal—benefited from it. Iran reiterates that it will never, under any circumstances, pursue nuclear weapons research, production, or acquisition.”
Araghchi emphasized that, even ten years after the agreement was signed and seven years after the U.S. unilaterally withdrew, there is no evidence that Iran has violated this commitment. He also noted that even Tulsi Gabbard, the U.S. Director of National Intelligence, recently acknowledged this fact.
He further stated: “Diplomatic engagement has proven effective in the past and can still be effective now. However, it must be clear to everyone that there is no such thing as a ‘military option,’ let alone a ‘military solution.’ The catastrophic failures in our region, which have cost previous U.S. administrations over $7 trillion, speak for themselves.”
