In a new escalation of tensions between Moscow and Kyiv, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that its air defense systems shot down 13 Ukrainian drones overnight — marking the latest in a series of tit-for-tat aerial attacks between the two sides.
Details of the Russian Defense Operation:
- 12 drones were downed over Rostov Oblast, located in southwestern Russia near the Ukrainian border.
- An additional drone was destroyed over Belgorod Oblast, an area that has also been previously targeted.
No casualties or material damages have been reported so far, according to a statement by the Ministry of Defense, as cited by Russia’s Sputnik news agency.
Ongoing Escalation:
This development comes amid a surge in drone warfare between the two countries, with Ukraine increasingly relying on unmanned aerial vehicles to penetrate deep into Russian territory.
Ukrainian Response:
Meanwhile, Ukrainian reports stated that Ukrainian air defenses shot down 43 out of 55 Russian drones launched overnight, targeting northern, central, and southern regions of Ukraine — reflecting a mutual escalation that continues to intensify the conflict.
The battle for the skies rages on, with no signs of de-escalation in sight, as world capitals closely monitor the developments and their potential impact on the international stage.
