The “Meshwary” program, a collaborative initiative between UNICEF and Egypt’s Ministry of Youth and Sports, has been a cornerstone in youth development since its inception in 2008. Aimed at empowering young individuals aged 10 to 24, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, the program focuses on equipping them with essential life skills, career guidance, and opportunities for civic engagement.
Program Objectives and Structure
“Meshwary,” meaning “My Journey,” is designed to bridge the gap between education and employment. The program comprises two main components:
Skills Development: This facet of the program concentrates on enhancing life skills, employability, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and digital competencies. By fostering these skills, “Meshwary” aims to prepare youth for the dynamic demands of the modern workforce.
Career Guidance: Participants receive personalized counseling to help them identify suitable career paths, understand labor market trends, and develop strategies for job searching and professional growth.
Implementation and Reach
Implemented across 15 governorates, including Upper Egypt, the Delta, and border regions, “Meshwary” operates through youth centers that serve as hubs for training and mentorship. Over the years, the program has reached more than 180,000 young people, with nearly half being female participants.
Strategic Partnerships and Support
The program’s success is bolstered by partnerships with private sector entities such as Allianz Egypt and Mylerz Co. These collaborations have introduced additional resources, including internships and specialized workshops, further enriching the program’s offerings.
Alignment with National Goals
“Meshwary” aligns with Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the National Strategy for Human Rights by promoting economic opportunity, entrepreneurship, and social inclusion. By focusing on skill development and civic engagement, the program contributes to the nation’s broader objectives of sustainable development and human capital investment.
Future Prospects
Looking ahead, “Meshwary” aims to expand its reach and impact by scaling up operations nationwide. Plans include integrating innovative components such as social entrepreneurship labs and digital learning platforms to adapt to the evolving needs of Egypt’s youth.
In summary, “Meshwary” stands as a testament to the power of collaborative efforts in youth empowerment. By providing young Egyptians with the tools and opportunities to shape their futures, the program plays a pivotal role in driving the country’s socio-economic progress.
