Russian media reported that the Supreme Court in Russia has issued a decision to suspend the ban on the activities of the Taliban movement within the country, confirming that the decision will take effect immediately.
The closed-door session was attended by representatives of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Ministry of Justice of Russia, and a lawyer representing the interests of the Taliban movement.
The Russian Supreme Court had previously approved a petition submitted by the Prosecutor General to suspend the ban on the Taliban’s activities in Russia.
At the end of December 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law allowing the temporary suspension of bans on organizations listed in the unified list of terrorist organizations, thus enabling legal interaction with the Taliban movement in Afghanistan.
According to the law signed by the Russian President, the decision to suspend the ban on the activities of a recognized terrorist organization is made by the judiciary based on a request from the Prosecutor General or his deputy.
