The U.S. Embassy in Cairo has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic cooperation that enhances shared prosperity for the youth of Egypt and the United States.
In a statement issued today, Saturday, the embassy expressed pride in its support for the “Maker Faire Cairo” exhibition, which this year celebrated its tenth anniversary. The event, held at Greek Campus, showcased the creativity and innovation of Egyptian makers from various fields.
The statement quoted Jina Cabrera, the spokesperson for the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, saying, “The makers, artists, and engineers participating in this year’s Maker Faire embody the spirit of true creativity. Through collaboration and the exchange of ideas, we can build a stronger, safer, and more prosperous future for both the United States and Egypt.”
The embassy explained that this year’s exhibition included more than 50 workshops, 8 live demonstrations, and 15 exhibits, in addition to a knowledge center that hosted discussions and hands-on educational experiences.
Topics ranged from robotics to woodworking, and this year’s event welcomed more than 2,000 makers and innovators from Egypt and various parts of the world.
Since its inception in 2015, Maker Faire Cairo has evolved into one of the leading DIY (Do It Yourself) festivals in the Middle East and North Africa, attracting thousands of participants annually.
The embassy highlighted that through its support for initiatives such as Maker Faire Cairo, the U.S. center aims to empower youth to engage with the fields of science, technology, and the arts.
The Maker Faire series, which originated at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2003, quickly transformed into a global movement that encourages individuals to think creatively and turn ideas into reality.
