Iranian Foreign Ministry: Lifting Sanctions Is a Core Demand in Talks with Washington

By Sama Marwan,

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei stated that any negotiations concerning Iran’s nuclear program must ensure the lifting of sanctions on Tehran and allow it to carry out its trade and banking activities normally.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Baghaei emphasized that Iran’s fundamental demand in any talks will be the tangible removal of sanctions, according to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency.

He noted that Iran does not differentiate between various sanctions, considering all of them to have been imposed illegally and unjustifiably.

He further stressed that any potential agreement between Tehran and Washington must guarantee lasting outcomes and ensure that all parties fulfill their commitments.

It is worth noting that delegations from Iran and the United States have held two rounds of talks over the past two weeks. The first round took place in Muscat, the capital of Oman, and the second in Rome, the capital of Italy, with the goal of reaching an agreement on Iran’s nuclear program and lifting sanctions on the country.

Both sides agreed to move forward with technical-level talks between experts in Oman on April 23, followed by a meeting of senior negotiators on April 26.
