In a powerful collaborative initiative, Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and Russia’s President Vladimir Putin came together during a crucial phone call on Saturday, expressing their shared dedication to advancing a ceasefire in Gaza. Both leaders underscored the urgent need for the international community to fulfill its responsibilities in addressing the situation of the Palestinian people.
The recent US veto of a UN Security Council resolution, which sought an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, has heightened the need for collective action. The veto, perceived by many as shielding Israel, raises global concerns, especially given the devastating toll, with over 17,400 Palestinians killed by the occupation army in the occupied territories since October 7.
President El-Sisi, in the phone call, reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering efforts to advocate for a ceasefire, protect civilian lives, and deliver aid to alleviate the urgent humanitarian conditions endured by the people of Gaza. The Egyptian presidency issued a statement highlighting the president’s resolute commitment to stand by the Palestinians in their struggle.
In the face of escalating crisis, Egypt’s commitment to humanitarian aid remains steadfast. Recent figures from the Ministry of Social Solidarity demonstrate Egypt’s substantial contributions, with over 21,000 tons of aid provided. This includes critical assistance such as 2,675 tons of medical aid, 9,621 tons of food supplies, 7,047 tons of water, and 1,992 tons of diverse relief materials.
President Sisi and President Putin reiterated the crucial importance of international efforts to secure a fair and comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian issue. Advocating for a two-state solution aligned with relevant international legal frameworks, both leaders emphasize the need to guarantee the establishment and recognition of the Palestinian state. In these diplomatic endeavors, they stand united in their commitment to supporting Gaza and the Palestinian cause for justice, dignity, and lasting peace.
