By Sama Marwan,

The Russian Embassy in Egypt expressed its pleasure at the arrival of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in Moscow to participate in Russia’s celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.

In an official statement, the embassy said:

“We warmly welcome the arrival of His Excellency, the esteemed Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, in Moscow to take part in the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. Russia receives him as an old and dear friend.”

The statement added that the joint commemoration of the anniversary of the great victory over Nazism on May 9, along with the summit-level talks scheduled for the same day, will provide a strong new momentum to the Russian-Egyptian partnership, which is founded on deep mutual sympathy between the two peoples and the solid, close relationship between our two leaders.

President El-Sisi is participating in Russia’s celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s great victory over Nazi Germany in World War II—an event of great significance to the Russian people, known as Victory in the Great Patriotic War. His participation comes at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin and reflects the strength of the Egyptian-Russian relationship, which has seen further development thanks to the personal friendship between the two presidents.

President El-Sisi will be among 29 world leaders joining Russia’s commemorations, alongside Chinese President Xi Jinping, Brazilian President Lula da Silva, leaders from former Soviet states, and others.
He will attend the massive military parade scheduled for Friday morning in Moscow’s iconic Red Square. Thirteen countries have sent symbolic military units to participate in the parade alongside Russian forces.
