The Danish-Egyptian Dialogue Initiative (DEDI) has embarked on an exciting new chapter, aiming to empower Egyptian youth and catalyze green innovation. With a $4.3 million investment and strong international partnerships, this initiative is setting the stage for a more sustainable and resilient future for Egypt.
The Danish-Egyptian Dialogue Initiative (DEDI) has embarked on a new four-year phase, launched in April 2025, to empower Egyptian youth and advance green innovation. This collaborative effort involves the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of Denmark, and the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding (CCCPA) .
Key Objectives of the New DEDI Phase
With a funding of $4.3 million from the Danish Arab Partnership Programme (DAPP), the initiative focuses on three interconnected pillars:
Sustainable Design & Circular Economy: Empowering young entrepreneurs to develop eco-friendly solutions in sectors like furniture and textiles, emphasizing recycling and waste reduction.
Green Environmental Literacy: Enhancing environmental awareness and climate education among Egyptian youth to cultivate informed advocates for sustainable change.
Youth Dialogue on Climate and Security: Establishing platforms for youth-led discussions and expert exchanges between Egypt, Denmark, and Africa, exploring the links between climate resilience, peace, and regional stability .
Strategic Partnerships and Initiatives
In February 2025, UNDP Egypt hosted the first Annual Green Growth Conference, bringing together over 200 participants, including government officials, international organizations, industry leaders, entrepreneurs, and youth advocates . The conference marked the launch of the National Green Taskforce and introduced a digital learning platform to empower youth as Green Ambassadors. Several key Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) were signed to strengthen partnerships for green growth, including agreements with Banque du Caire, Plan International, Vodafone Business, and the initiation of an agreement with DEDI.
A Vision for Sustainable Future
This renewed phase of DEDI underscores a shared commitment to fostering sustainable development, advancing youth-led innovation, and deepening bilateral cooperation on climate action and security. By placing young people at the center of this transformation, the initiative aims to accelerate Egypt’s green transition and build a resilient, inclusive future.
