Real Madrid will wrap up their campaign in the current edition of the Spanish La Liga when they host Real Sociedad tonight, Saturday.
The match will kick off at 5:15 PM Cairo local time at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, as part of the 38th and final round of the 2024–2025 La Liga season.
Real Madrid currently sits in second place in the La Liga standings with 81 points, behind Barcelona, who have already secured the championship with 85 points. Real Sociedad occupies 11th place with 46 points.
While the match is a formality for Real Madrid, following Barcelona’s early title win, it carries emotional significance as it marks the farewell of Croatian veteran star Luka Modrić and Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti.
All eyes will be on the pitch at the Bernabéu for what promises to be an emotional farewell for iconic figures who played pivotal roles in the club’s history. Luka Modrić, the legendary Croatian playmaker, will play his final match at Real Madrid’s home stadium, concluding a 13-year spell full of trophies and glory in the white shirt.
Modrić, now 39 years old, joined Real Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012, and during his time with Los Blancos, he won numerous titles, most notably six UEFA Champions League titles and four La Liga trophies.
His last appearance in a Real Madrid shirt is expected to be at the FIFA Club World Cup, scheduled for June in the United States.
The match also marks the farewell of manager Carlo Ancelotti, who is preparing to take on a new challenge as head coach of the Brazilian national team. Ancelotti leaves behind a legacy as one of the most successful managers in the club’s history.
There is also a special challenge ahead for French star Kylian Mbappé, who aims to improve his goal tally to clinch the La Liga Golden Boot and the European Golden Shoe.
Mbappé trails Victor Gyökeres of Sporting Lisbon by just half a point in the European race. Gyökeres has already completed his season in Portugal. Mbappé is currently ahead of Mohamed Salah, who still has one final match left in the English Premier League with Liverpool against Crystal Palace.
Real Madrid comes into the match on the back of a 2–0 morale-boosting win over Sevilla in the penultimate round, played at Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium.
