The Republic of Kenya considers the Moroccan autonomy plan the only sustainable approach to resolving the Sahara issue, commending the growing international consensus and the momentum led by King Mohammed VI of Morocco in support of this plan.
The Republic of Kenya expressed this position in a joint statement issued following a meeting held on Monday, May 26, 2025, in Rabat, between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Mr. Nasser Bourita, and the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Affairs of the Republic of Kenya, Musalia Mudavadi.

The joint statement stated that Kenya “considers the autonomy plan as the only sustainable approach to resolving the Sahara issue and intends to cooperate with countries that share the same vision to implement this plan.”

In this context, “Kenya commends the growing international consensus and the momentum led by King Mohammed VI in support of the autonomy plan proposed by the Kingdom of Morocco, as the only realistic, credible, and realistic solution to the conflict over the Sahara.”

The two officials emphasized “the exclusive oversight of the UN political process and reiterated their support for UN Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2756 (2024).”

The statement concluded that the Kingdom of Morocco “expresses its appreciation for Kenya’s recognition of Morocco’s continued cooperation with the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy to advance the political process on the basis of relevant Security Council resolutions.”
