Microsoft announced today the launch of a new feature within the Bing app called Bing Video Creator — a tool that enables users to create videos using artificial intelligence, based on the Sora model developed by OpenAI.
This marks the first time OpenAI has made access to the Sora model free to the public, after it was previously only available to paid subscribers. The release is part of the ongoing partnership between Microsoft and OpenAI, as both companies aim to integrate advanced AI technologies into everyday products used by millions.
At this stage, Bing Video Creator is not available on desktop computers and can only be accessed via the Bing mobile app. Although a “fast mode” option is provided, video generation may still take several hours, reflecting the significant computational complexity required by this new technology.
All users, provided they are signed in with a Microsoft account, can create up to 10 videos for free. After that, each additional video costs 100 Microsoft Rewards points — points users earn by searching with Bing or making purchases from the Microsoft Store. For example, users can earn 5 points per desktop search, up to a maximum of 150 points per day.
Currently, users can generate three short videos (each no longer than 5 seconds) at the same time. There are no current options to change video length. All clips are generated in a vertical aspect ratio (9:16), indicating a focus on platforms like TikTok and Instagram. Microsoft has announced that support for horizontal videos is coming soon.
This new addition is a significant leap in the world of publicly available AI tools. Now, anyone can generate professional-looking visual content from a simple text description. With growing interest in AI-powered video technologies, Bing Video Creator could become a powerful platform for creators and content makers on social media.
