The Embassy of India in Cairo hosted a special conference on Tuesday evening to mark the visit of a high-level Indian parliamentary delegation representing various political parties. The event was attended by former Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Nabil Fahmy, Egypt’s former Ambassador to India Geelan Allam, as well as a number of academics and parliamentarians.
In his remarks, India’s new Ambassador to Egypt, Suresh K. Reddy, stated that the delegation’s visit reflects the strength of India-Egypt relations. He highlighted the important meetings held by the delegation in Cairo, which underscored the shared perspectives and mutual desire to advance cooperation in various fields.
Dr. Nabil Fahmy commended India’s democratic experience, pointing to the long-standing and deep-rooted ties between the two countries. He referenced the strong bond between leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi and Saad Zaghloul, as well as Jawaharlal Nehru and Gamal Abdel Nasser, which led to the founding of the Non-Aligned Movement. Fahmy stressed that this robust relationship continues today under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
During the conference, members of the Indian delegation emphasized Egypt’s pivotal role in the region, particularly in combating terrorism through a comprehensive approach. They noted that the visit reflects India’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with Egypt and the Arab world in counterterrorism and in promoting shared global values.
The delegation also held meetings with senior members of the Egyptian Senate and House of Representatives, participated in a dialogue with the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs, and met with Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration, Dr. Badr Abdel Aaty, as well as the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit.
The delegation’s program also includes a tribute at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Al-Horreya Garden, a visit to the War Memorial in Heliopolis, and meetings with members of the Indian community, in addition to prominent Egyptian editors, researchers, and strategic thinkers.
