The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has lauded Palestinian striker Wessam Abou Ali, the first-team player for Al Ahly, ahead of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, set to take place in the United States from June 14 to July 13.

Al Ahly in the Club World Cup

Al Ahly will kick off their Club World Cup campaign with a highly anticipated match against Inter Miami, led by Argentine superstar Lionel Messi. They will then face off against Brazilian club Palmeiras and Portuguese club Porto in the group stage.

FIFA described the Palestinian forward Wessam Abou Ali as “Al Ahly’s hunter” who aims to leave his mark globally and lead Al Ahly towards making history in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

“Wessam Abou Ali, the Danish-born Palestinian forward, has transformed from a new arrival into a goal-scorer who dreams of scoring in the Club World Cup,” FIFA added on its official website.

Wessam Abou Ali: The “Hunter” Who Solved Al Ahly’s Striking Crisis and Dreams of Shining in the 2025 Club World Cup

“He joined Al Ahly in the middle of the 2023-2024 season as a solution to a real crisis in the striker position, as the team needed a number 9 player capable of finishing attacks and converting chances into goals. The young striker quickly adapted remarkably to the atmosphere and playing style of the Red Devils, proving to everyone that he was not just an emergency signing, but the missing piece in an attacking system that was searching for effectiveness and decisiveness inside the penalty area,” the statement continued.

It added, “Wessam began his career progressing through the youth ranks of Danish club Aalborg, where he played for the U19 team in the 2016-2017 season and was promoted to the first team, participating with them in the Danish Superliga for the first time in the 2018-2019 season. After that, he moved to Danish club Vendsyssel on a one-year loan, then joined Silkeborg in the following season, before returning to Vendsyssel on a permanent transfer.

He continued with them until 2023, and the Palestinian striker decided to embark on a different experience playing in Sweden via Sirius, where he excelled, scoring 10 goals in 16 matches, before landing with Egyptian club Al Ahly.”

“Just as Wessam, who scored 35 goals and made 10 assists in 57 matches, provided a solution to Al Ahly’s attacking crisis, he, in return, gained what he had not achieved throughout his career: collective titles. After years spent in Denmark and Sweden with clubs where he did not taste the sweetness of championship victories, he is now part of a system that competes for titles locally, continentally, and globally. This has raised his aspirations, to the point where his goal now is to hit the back of the net in the Club World Cup, looking forward to continuing his journey of success with the team,” the statement concluded.
