Elon Musk Activates Starlink Satellite Internet for Iranians Amid Nationwide Blackouts

By Sama Marwan,

In a bold move aimed at restoring internet access during government-imposed blackouts, Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, has confirmed the activation of Starlink satellite internet services for users in Iran.

This development comes amid ongoing protests and strict limitations on internet access and social media platforms across Iran, according to the news outlet Financial Express.

The Iranian government has imposed widespread restrictions on internet access following a series of Israeli strikes targeting Iranian military assets.

Iran’s Ministry of Communications confirmed on Friday that “temporary restrictions on internet access” were in place, citing the recent wave of Israeli attacks.

In a statement carried by Iran’s ISNA news agency, the ministry added that the restrictions would be lifted “once the situation returns to normal.

Musk announced on the X platform (formerly Twitter) that Starlink had been activated in the country, defying the official ban.

Responding to another post on X, Musk simply wrote:

“The beams are active.”

Starlink, which uses low-Earth orbit satellites, enables internet access in remote regions or in areas where conventional communication infrastructure has been disrupted or shut down.

This move comes as internet connectivity in Iran faces significant disruption amid rising tensions between Iran and Israel. With state-run mobile networks offline, Starlink is expected to provide vital connectivity to the Iranian public during this critical time.
