Barcelona Preparing to Sign Álvarez Next Summer

By Sama Marwan ,

Spanish club FC Barcelona is preparing to strengthen its attacking line by signing Argentine striker Julián Álvarez in the summer of 2025, in anticipation of the post-Robert Lewandowski era, whose contract is expected to end in June 2026.

According to Spanish newspaper Sport, Álvarez is emerging as the top candidate to succeed Lewandowski as the club’s main striker. Álvarez currently has a contract with Atlético Madrid until 2030, having joined the club in 2024 for a large transfer fee of €75 million plus add-ons. His current market value is estimated at €100 million, according to Transfermarkt.

Despite the difficult negotiations expected with Atlético Madrid, Álvarez’s agent has left the door open for a potential move to Barcelona, stating that “football is full of surprises and changes, and negotiations will take place between the relevant parties.”

While Álvarez is tied to a long-term contract with Atlético, his agent’s remarks suggest that Barcelona may still pursue talks, even if the deal proves complicated. The Argentine star is seen as Barcelona’s primary target to lead the attack, especially after ruling out other options due to financial constraints.

For now, Barcelona will rely on Dani Olmo and Ferran Torres to support Lewandowski in the upcoming season, while the club is also looking to sign a high-quality winger to further boost the squad.
