Macron Calls on Iran to De-escalate and Exercise Maximum Restraint

By Sama Marwan ,

French President Emmanuel Macron has called on Iran to de-escalate and exercise the utmost restraint following U.S. strikes that targeted three Iranian nuclear sites last night.

In a post on the “X” platform today (Sunday), Macron said:
“Following last night’s strikes, we call for de-escalation and the exercise of maximum restraint in this dangerous context, which would allow a return to diplomatic channels.”

He added that he had spoken with the Iranian president and urged dialogue, along with a clear commitment from Iran to abandon its nuclear weapons — warning that otherwise, the entire region would be at risk. He emphasized that this is the only path that leads to peace and security for all.

Macron went on to say that he also spoke this morning with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, the Sultan of Oman, the President of the United Arab Emirates, and the Emir of Qatar to express his solidarity with them.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced today that the U.S. struck three nuclear sites in Iran: Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the American attack on Iranian nuclear facilities, describing it as a blatant and unprecedented violation of the core principles of the UN Charter and international law.
