Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry discussed in a telephone call with Chairperson of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki the latest developments in Sudan and Gaza. Shoukry also discussed with Faki Egypt’s efforts to resolve the Sudanese crisis in alignment with the endeavors of neighbouring countries.
The two sides exchanged assessments of the outcomes of the recent IGAD Summit and other regional efforts to resolve the crisis in Sudan.
Faki highlighted the African Union’s efforts to find a comprehensive political solution to the Sudanese crisis, including the extensive consultations with the Sudanese civil component held last November, the statement noted.
Shoukry, on the other hand, briefed Faki on the efforts by Egypt and Arab and Islamic countries in the Security Council to adopt a resolution that further enhances the ability of Egypt and the international community to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
Furthermore, the statement said the two officials exchanged views on the agenda of the upcoming African Summit and the action mechanisms of the African Union and its various bodies.
They also discussed enhancing cooperation between Egypt and the Commission in general, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said.
Shoukry told Faki that Egypt fully supports the African Union Commission in fulfilling its responsibilities towards the continent. He also anticipated that the ongoing coordination with the Commission would advance the integration agenda and achieve sustainable development goals in Africa.
