Egypt, Bahrain discuss ceasefire efforts in Gaza

By Manal Abdel Fattah

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa discussed efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza during a phone call on Thursday, according to a statement from the Egyptian presidency.

The statement said that El-Sisi congratulated the king on Bahrain’s national holidays and wished the country continued progress and prosperity.

The two leaders also discussed the bilateral relationship between Egypt and Bahrain, and praised the deep ties between the two countries and their leaderships. They stressed the importance of continuing to work to expand cooperation in all areas.

The statement also said that the two leaders discussed the situation in Gaza, and reviewed the ongoing efforts to reach a ceasefire and deliver humanitarian aid. They agreed on the need for the international community to enforce UN resolutions, including Security Council resolutions and General Assembly resolutions, to put an end to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The call comes as the fighting in Gaza continues, with no end in sight. The conflict has killed more than 200 Palestinians, including over 60 children, and more than 10 Israelis.
