Brad Pitt had the time of his life playing a race car driver in his upcoming film F1: The Movie — but he admits his driving habits off-screen are a different story.
Speaking with Extra, Pitt described the exhilarating experience of portraying Sonny Hayes, a retired driver making a comeback.
“It’s like nothing I’ve ever experienced before,” Pitt shared. “There’s this strange calm that happens in the car and this total focus and presence that I’ve never felt from anything else.”
However, when it comes to everyday driving, Pitt confessed he’s often battling his inner speed demon.
“I’m one of those people who always feels like I’m on the racetrack and I need to chill,” he said. “So that’s my goal this year — just trying to chill. Enjoy the sights, don’t sweat the traffic.”
He laughed, admitting, “I’m not doing very well, by the way.”
In F1, Pitt stars opposite Damson Idris, who plays a younger racing star rivaling Pitt’s character. Despite the film’s theme of older versus younger competitors, Pitt said he embraces the new generation’s talent.
“It’s funny because I see the new generations coming in and it’s really exciting what they’re doing,” he explained. “Movies capture moments in time, and I enjoy it — but even more, I love seeing what others are creating. For me, it’s less about the chase and more about appreciating the natural evolution.”
F1: The Movie hits theaters on June 27.
