Iranian Foreign Minister: Our Cooperation with the IAEA Will Be Managed Through the Supreme National Security Council

By Sama Marwan,

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Tehran’s cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will proceed through the Supreme National Security Council, for obvious reasons related to safety and security.

Araghchi also rejected recent efforts by the European Union to initiate talks aimed at halting Iran’s nuclear program.

According to Iran’s Mehr News Agency on Thursday, Araghchi said in a statement responding to comments by the EU’s foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas—who urged Iran to enter immediate negotiations to limit its nuclear activities:

“Kallas ignores the principles laid out in the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which explicitly affirms the right of all signatory states, including Iran, to develop, research, and use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.”

Araghchi also criticized the European Union’s stance, pointing to UN Security Council Resolution 2231, which endorsed the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), known as the Iran nuclear deal.

The Iranian foreign minister rejected the participation of the European Union and the United Kingdom in any future negotiations, saying their involvement would be irrelevant and meaningless. He stressed the responsibility of all governments to condemn the military aggression carried out by Israel and the United States against Iran.
