The Indonesian School in Cairo (SIC) reaffirmed its commitment to fostering students’ personal growth and skill development by participating in the 6th Summer Scout Camp 2025 held in Port Said, Egypt. The event, organized by the Port Said branch of the Egyptian Scouting Movement, took place over four days, from Thursday, July 24 to Sunday, July 27, 2025.

This year, the school sent 40 students from both middle and high school levels, accompanied by members of the Scout troop from the Indonesian Embassy in Cairo, school principal Mr. Priyo Nugroho, several teachers, and a medical team from the Indonesian Embassy.

The event welcomed participants from various countries, including Sudan, as well as a large number of local participants from across Egypt. Bringing together nearly 300 boys and girls aged 12 to 17, the camp provided a platform for youth from different cultural backgrounds to connect. Held annually during the summer, the camp offers participants a valuable opportunity to meet, learn, and exchange experiences.

The much-anticipated opening ceremony brought all participants together in a beautifully decorated square embodying the spirit of scouting. The presence of Mr. Lutfi Rauf, Indonesian Ambassador to Cairo, further elevated the occasion. In his remarks, the Ambassador emphasized the importance of such activities in building character and leadership among the younger generation:

“This activity is not only about competition and games but also about friendship and cooperation. Let us use this opportunity to learn from one another and deepen our love for our homelands. May the experiences gained here help shape your character and leadership in the future. Thank you to everyone who organized this event, and we wish you a joyful day!”

Following the opening ceremony, the camp unfolded with a variety of engaging activities designed to enhance scouting skills and teamwork. Participants were divided into small groups to take part in competitions that included sports, group games, and other outdoor activities. Each activity was designed not only to test physical abilities but also to foster communication and cooperation among team members.

Students also took part in workshops focused on skill development, such as leadership, time management, and survival skills. These sessions encouraged participants to support one another and appreciate their differences.

On the third day, all participants embarked on an 8-kilometer trek, during which they explored and learned about historic sites in Port Said. In the evening, they gathered for a traditional “Campfire Night,” where the Indonesian School in Cairo’s troupe performed the traditional Indonesian “Tapak Suci Silat” dance in full traditional attire. The performance concluded with the school inviting all participants and guests to join in the “Gemu Famire” dance, adding a festive and unifying spirit to the camp.

Mr. Abdel-Motal, Educational and Cultural Attaché at the Indonesian Embassy in Cairo, also attended the event and praised the initiative:

“I highly appreciate the efforts of the Egyptian Scouts and all committee members involved in organizing this summer scout camp. Activities like these are essential for developing students’ social and leadership skills. Moreover, interaction among participants from different countries strengthens cross-cultural ties. I hope the participants will take valuable lessons from this experience and apply them in their daily lives.”

The 6th Summer Scout Camp 2025 is expected to serve as a springboard for young participants to continue making positive contributions both within their local communities and beyond. This activity is more than just a gathering—it is a platform for youth to grow and develop into strong, principled future leaders.
